THE ROUTE OF THE "AMERICANOS"

The "Indians" or "Americans" were the people who, after the Free Trade Treaty of 1778, decided to go to the Americas to make their fortune, and who in many cases returned to their cities of origin.

The case of Vilanova i la Geltrú was particularly important within Catalonia, for having one of the highest rates of emigrants in the Americas. Vilanova, with its ties to Cuba, was known as Little Havana, still visible today through its streets and buildings.
